I'm having trouble with an .xls file that seems to hang kinosearch forever. If I run ks_test stringify filename.xls it displays a lot of apparently white space followed by some text, but if I pipe it to wc I get several lines like:
wc: standard input:25 Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character

Is there a way to constrain it to ascii - or a better parser for excel?
