I moved my data directories out of the main hierarchy. Everything displays just fine, but when I go to edit a topic, the whiteboard is empty. What's going on?

No idea what "moved my data directories out of the main hierarchy" or "the whiteboard is empty" mean. Insufficient information to comment. Discarded.

It ran out of patience and threw its toys out of the pram

As I said, I moved the data (and pub) directory out of the TWiki hierarchy. (I'm sharing them between different installs.) I changed things appropriately in General path settings, setting PubDir to the path to pub and DataDir to the path to data. View works just fine, but edit displays no text in the whiteboard.
