Since the user isn't supposed to edit these but, rather, override them in TWikiPreferences, having an edit button would appear to be a VeryNotGoodIdea. (see Item4019)
Along these lines, it would probably A Good Thing to suggesting using raw view to facilitate copying stuff from TWikiPreferences and to put occasional comments within the very long topic reminding people to change them in the Main web instead. because this was added at some point:
__Note__: Can't edit?
[[/do/view/Bugs/Item1552?raw=on][View raw topic]]
yes, we need to add more intelligence to the edit links in templates - but this is a post dakar new feature -- SD
TWikiPreferences should be rethought as to which items should go into a configuration module or elsewhere. Sooner rather than later, however, the following items should be put into
TWikiPreferences:
- WEBLOGOIMG
- WEBLOGOURL
- WEBLOGOALT
- WIKIWEBMASTER
And probably these as well:
- USERLAYOUTURL
- USERSTYLEURL
- USERCOLORSURL

do these variables really want to be in
TWikiPreferences? this bug has been sitting around for a long time...

I don't think so, myself. I'd strongly prefer to see some higher quality documentation that describes in clear, simple terms how to customise TWiki. It would be obvious from that documentation what has to be done with these variables. At the moment even simple customisations (like replacing the logo) can be hard to get a handle on. Meredith's point about peppering
TWikiPreferences with helpful remarks would be a good starting point.
Changed headline to reflect this.

I am setting this to "no action required" - it had no action for many years and is not important.
