Does this site look broken?. Use the LitterTray web for test cases.

I have a fresh installation of TWiki:Codev.TWikiRelease04x00x00beta06 on our TWiki Server. There is an error: the backlinks of topics is always empty, when accessed from the "backlinks" link on the bottom of th topic. When I rename a topic, the lists "Change links in topics that refer to <> ..." seem to be correct.

Possibly this is due to misconfiguration. Strange fact: the productive Cairo release running on the same server, web server and perl installation behaves vise-versa: the backlinks are ok, but the "change links ..." lists when renaming is always empty. I switched from mod_perl to ActivePerl a few weeks ago. On mod_perl, the same error occured.

Installation Details

  • Windows 2000
  • Apache 1.3.28
  • ActivePerl 5.8.7, build 815
  • Some "unix support files" ls.exe, grep.exe a.s.o. I forgot where i have it from. Is this still used anyway?

I just tested, and backlinks is fine on both Linux and Windows, so misconfiguration is probable.

Backlinks uses SEARCH, which depends on grep. You must have GNU grep for it to work. That is probably the problem. If not, re-open this report.

Your right, now it works! Before I had a Cygwin port of GNU grep, that seemed not to work sometimes. (There was no egrep available, so i took grep instead. I'm not able to distinguish this stuff anyway ... smile )

Now i tried unxutils from sourceforge. This works well. I'll test other search issues I had on this installation and hope to have all solved now.

Should there be a description how to install TWiki on Windows without cygwin? (Or is there one and I didn't find it?) I tried cygwin as my first TWiki installation (Cairo) and I found out that this is very hard, so I never recommend it. The GNU utils could be part of a TWiki binary distibution for Windows. That would be very helpful for people trying TWiki the fist time on windows.

Thanks a lot.
