Detail

VarIF seems to be throwing out extra carriage returns when used in a SEARCH, unlike $IF in Plugins.SpreadsheetPlugin.

See my examples of (06 Aug 2008) and (07 Aug 2008) in TWiki:Support.SearchMethodToUse.

You are not comparing apples with apples. First, the %IF statement does not support $createusername. Use info.author. Second, if the search matches a topic that was not authored by SeanCMorgan, your %IF statement generates an empty string, while the %CALC generates a <nop>. Since (1) search results are printed one per line, (2) TWiki specifies that an empty line gives a para break, and (3) you are generating empty lines in the search output when you use %IF, but lines with <nop> when you use %CALC, then you get what you asked for.

No bug here.
